Liverpool is the World Capital of Pop Music and the latest award from UNESCO names Liverpool as a UNESCO City of Music. The award recognises music's place at the heart of Liverpool's culture.
Artists from the city of Liverpool have had more number 1 singles than any other city in the world: more than New York, more than the Motown city of Detroit, more than London. As well as the Liverpool International Music Festival in August, there are two other major music festivals in the city: Liverpool music week and Liverpool Sound City.
There are many music venues in the city, including the Echo Arena for world famous acts such as Coldplay, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. We have the mid size O2 Academy and smaller venues where you can see new and exciting musical acts. There is also the Royal Liverpool Orchestra and the Philharmonic concert hall for more specialist acts.
The school can recommend places to see music and the social programme includes Jazz, Salsa and Open Mic nights. Of course no trip to Liverpool is complete without visiting the Beatles Story museum or the Cavern Club.
